Historic restoration questions.
Do you work in historic districts?
Yes. We’ve worked in Birmingham, Royal Oak, and several Bloomfield neighborhoods with historic district commissions. We submit drawings and material samples for review and stay engaged through the approval process so the project doesn’t stall.
Can you match original plaster, trim, or millwork?
In most cases yes. For plaster we work with a small group of specialty plasterers who do period-appropriate veneer and skim work. For trim and millwork we mill profiles to match originals when stock won’t do.
Do you do tuckpointing on older brick homes?
Yes. We do tuckpointing, brick repair, and chimney rebuilds on pre-war homes throughout Oakland County. We use lime-based mortars on older masonry where the original mortar requires it. Modern Portland mortar can damage soft historic brick.
What about lead paint and asbestos in older homes?
We test before disturbing materials in pre-1980 homes and bring in certified abatement contractors when needed. It adds a line item to the estimate but it’s non-negotiable for the crew’s safety and yours.
